At CARA Development Foundation, your privacy is important to us and as such we abide by the following principles for our website, social media handles or other online platforms:
I) Solicit only personal information needed to serve you better and don’t ask for irrelevant details. (II) Share personal information in compliance with the law or protect our rights based on “what we do”. (III) Store or maintain personal information required for our operation online or offline.
Our internal policy is to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while you engage with us online.
Who we are
Our website address is https://www.cara.org.ng and we bear the registered name “Cara Development Foundation (CARA)” across all social or online platforms we use. We are a not-for-profit development organization operating in Nigeria. You can get in touch with us through email: contact@cara.org.ng
What personal data do we collect and why do we collect it
CARA might collect a sort of non-personally identifying information that is made available by web browsers and servers (inclusive online or social media platforms), such as the date and time of a visitor request. Our purpose in collecting them is to better understand how visitors use our website or platforms.
Also, we collect personally identifying information based on the way the visitors interact or the nature of the interaction with our platform. For example, those who comment on our blog provide a username and email address, and those who wish to receive updates as a newsletter, subscribe with their emails. In each case, CARA collects such information insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with us.
CARA does not disclose personally identifying information other than as described below. Visitors can always refuse to supply such information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain related activities we carry out.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection (this is done through Akismet Anti-spam service).
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
When you share images with us, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to our platform can download and extract any location data from those images.
Contact Forms
We collect names, emails, phone numbers, etc. to enable us to further reach out to anyone after contacting us through form submissions. We keep this info for only customer service purposes and don’t use it for marketing purposes.
E-mail Subscriptions
You will need to provide your e-mail address to subscribe to our e-mail newsletters. Who do we share your data with
By default, we share your data with third-party companies on a non-disclosure agreement for utilizing their services in running our operation.
How long we retain your data
We keep your data as long as we are still in operation which includes scenarios like if you leave a comment, the message content and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users who subscribe or fill out a form on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their submission. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights do you have over your data?
If you have subscribed on our platform, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Your data are secured in a cloud hosting service provider and take shared responsibility for its protection or breach.
How we protect your data
CARA discloses personally identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations that:
I) Need to know that information to process it on our behalf or to provide services available on our platform, and (II) They have agreed not to disclose it to others.
Some of these employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your region; by using our platforms, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. We will not rent or sell personally identifying information to anyone.
Other than to our employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, CARA can also disclose personally identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order, or another governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect our property or rights, third parties or the public at large.
If you have interacted with our platform and supplied your email address, CARA may occasionally send you an email to inform you about our activities, solicit your feedback and support, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with us.
In terms of data breaches, we have procedures like appropriate internal reporting systems and contact mechanisms for reaching those concerned, especially our users. A report would be issued and the next steps to be taken detailed.
Meanwhile, we take all measures reasonably necessary like encryption, two-factor authentication, and staff training in data protection to protect and completely secure against the unauthorized access, disclosure, use, alteration, or destruction of personally identifying information.
Consequently, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, data loss, or other breaches will never occur.
Special Notice Regarding Children Under 13
We recognize the sensitivity of personally identifiable information concerning children under the age of 13 and are committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations regarding children, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). Except in limited circumstances allowed by COPPA, We will not knowingly collect, maintain, or disclose any personally identifiable information from a child under 13 without first obtaining consent from that child’s parent or legal guardian.
If you are a parent or guardian who has discovered that your child under the age of 13 has submitted his or her personally identifiable information without your permission or consent, CARA will make reasonable efforts to remove the information from its active list, at your request. To request the removal of your child’s information, please send an e-mail to us and be sure to include in your message the same e-mail address or details that your child submitted.
Consent to Processing in Nigeria
By providing any personally identifiable information to COMPANY, all users, including, without limitation, users in the member states of the European Union, fully understand and unambiguously consent to this Privacy Policy and the collection, storage, and processing of such information in Nigeria.
Business Transfers
If CARA, or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or in the unlikely event that we go out of business or enter bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party.
